We lead busy lives. We are always on the go, constantly being bombarded with information and deadlines – not to mention our own thoughts. When we have too much on our plate, we easily lose focus and switch to autopilot, trying to do everything at once. This is why it is important that we prioritise our tasks.
Clear priorities promote Healthy Performance
To prioritise means picking a few, essential activities. This can be difficult, as it also means rejecting others. By sorting out your priorities, you gain more stability in your daily life and build up your mental presence and focus. Even when you are under pressure.
Learn the 2-2-2 principle
The 2-2-2 principle consists of three small, specific two-minute exercises that you should do to start your working day:
2 minutes to plan your day in order to get your priority tasks done
Planning
Rather than just prioritising the meetings scheduled in your calendar, practice setting aside time for preparation and important priorities as well. This is a small investment with a major pay-off.
Plan and schedule your working day according to your energy. Most of us have the highest energy level early in the day. It is therefore best to avoid emails and phone calls for the first 30-60 minutes of your working day. This is a good time to focus on your top priorities.
Avoid multitasking
Our ability to multitask is a myth. When you try to juggle multiple tasks, your productivity and wellbeing suffer.
You will find that your tasks take longer to complete, you are more likely to make mistakes and you are more easily distracted. Focus on one task at a time instead.
Did you know that...
it takes up to 20 minutes to recover your work flow if you are interrupted while performing a task that requires your concentration. Source: Shamsi T. Iqbal, survey conducted for Microsoft, USA in collaboration with the University of Illinois.
Healthy Performance in your ears
Our training sessions guide you through a series of exercises that can boost your energy and promote Healthy Performance.
Find them in our podcast series “Sunde stemmer” in your podcast app, or listen to them here:
Healthy Performance consists of three areas: focus, mental breaks and prioritisation. In each of these areas, we offer mental training exercises that can help you become a better version of yourself.
Focus
Many of us have trouble maintaining focus and being mentally present. This affects our quality of life and our
performance. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be that way. You can train your brain to handle challenges in order to
optimise your performance.
Some people consider taking regular breaks a “luxury”, but in fact breaks are an effective and simple way to improve your concentration and boost your mental strength.
