Danica Health Insurance

The basic module covers an annual amount of up to DKK 1 million for your expenses for quick treatment at a private hospital or a medical specialist. If you have other modules, you may be covered for up to DKK 1.5 million a year. You can see the amount in Netpension or in the policy you received via e-Boks. 

The basic module covers your expenses for: 

• Consultations and preliminary examinations and subsequent treatment 
• Your own meals, accommodation and care at the private hospital during inpatient treatment. 
• Surgical treatment – both outpatient and inpatient treatment. Medical or other treatment is covered only in connection with inpatient treatment 
• Necessary post-treatment check-ups if symptoms occur, however no later than one year after the last day of treatment. 
• Post-surgical outpatient rehabilitation in Denmark. Rehabilitation must take place in a private hospital or at medical specialist or physiotherapist clinic with referral by a doctor. Your insurance covers a maximum amount equal to the subsidy for rehabilitation in accordance with the collective agreement with the public authorities. 

This module offers you treatment by a number of therapists. This includes:

• medicine during the first six months after the first date of treatment
• treatment by a physiotherapist, an osteopath or a chiropractor – either a reasonable and necessary number of treatments when using a therapist from our network or a maximum of 12 treatments by a therapist of your choice per 12-month period
• a maximum of 12 treatments by a reflexologist per 12-month period
• a maximum of 12 treatments by an acupuncturist per 12-month period
• consultation with a psychologist – either a reasonable and necessary number of consultations when using a psychologist from our network or a maximum of 12 consultations with a certified psychologist of your choice per 12-month period. We cover a maximum of 12 treatments for the same reason by a psychologist of your choice, however.
• examination and treatment by a psychiatrist within our network
• treatment by a dietician – if your BMI is above 30 or if the treatment by the dietician is part of a course of treatment for another illness

With this module, you can seek coverage for expenses related to certain treatments at a private hospital abroad. The module also includes the possibility for temporary assistance in your own home, as well as subsidies for treatment- or recreational stays in Denmark following hospitalisation.  You can read more about the conditions for coverage in the insurance conditions through the online pension service.

A company pension scheme may include a health insurance extended with Module 3, which also covers your children if they fall ill or have an accident and need treatment.

If your employer has not included Module 3 in your health insurance, you can choose to take out Danica Children’s Health Insurance instead. The insurance will be set up as a personal policy independently of your employer.

Which children are covered?

The insurance covers the children from the age of 0 to 24, and it covers the following children:

• Your biological and adopted children aged 0 to 24
• The biological and adopted children aged 0 to 24 of your spouse. The child or children must be registered at your address at the time when the illness or their condition following an accident is diagnosed
• The biological and adopted children aged 0 to 24 of your cohabitant. The child or children must be registered at your address at the time when the illness or their condition following an accident is diagnosed. Cover is subject to you having lived with your cohabitant in a conjugal relationship at a shared address for at least two years before the diagnosis of the illness or the condition following an accident is given. In order to share an address you must be registered at the same address in the Danish National Register.

Children's Health Insurance covers

• Consultations and preliminary examinations in a private hospital or at medical specialists
• Surgical treatment – both outpatient and inpatient treatment
• Medical treatment is covered only in connection with inpatient treatment
• Accommodation and meals for a companion according to Danica's assessment
• Post-treatment check-up
• Post-surgical outpatient rehabilitation in Denmark
• Treatments at physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath, acupuncturist, reflexologist and psychologist

A company health insurance cover may include module 4, which provides the employees with the opportunity for treatment of alcohol, drug and other addictions.

This module is not available if you have a personal health insurance cover.

• ADDIS test, that gives a diagnosis of dependence of medicine and/or alcohol
• Preliminary examination and treatment of dependence of medicine and/or alcohol
• Preliminary examination and treatment of dependence of other drugs
• Medicine
• Follow-up consultation

The insurance covers expenses incurred for up to two sessions of treatment of dependence of medicine, alcohol and/or other drugs until the insurance expires.

We cover provided that:

• there is a realistic chance that you will recover in the opinion of the attending practitioner at the place of treatment
• any former treatment covered by the insurance has been completed
• the place of treatment is situated in Denmark and is on our list of approved places of treatment. The list is updated regularly

• The first three months after the insurance cover has been set up as a personal cover
• Illnesses which, according to general medical assessment, are incurable
• Treatment which cannot significantly or permanently improve the condition
• Chronic conditions diagnosed before the insurance cover entered into force
• If criteria for treatment in the public healthcare system are not met
• Examination and treatment that are of a general or preventive nature
• Cosmetic treatment
• Dental treatment
• Fertility treatment
• Injuries occurring in connection with professional sports

When you report a claim online, you will receive a receipt on your screen containing information about your next steps. We will also send you an email confirming receipt of your claim.  

If you are unsure if we have received your claim, you can check it by logging on to Netpension and looking under ‘Sign’. We have received your claim if it is listed under ‘Signed agreements’.

If we have approved treatment via FysioDanmark, you will receive an email and text message with a booking link right away. Click the link in order to complete the notification of your claim.

If we have approved treatment via AS3 Work&Care, AS3 will call you the following business day between 9.00am and 12.00 noon. You will receive an approval letter in e-Boks within one to three business days or by mail if you did not download the letter from the receipt after you finished the claim online.

If we have approved examination by a specialist/at a private hospital, you will most often receive an email with a link to the online booking system Sundhedspartneren. Click the link in the email and log on to Sundhedspartneren with MitID in order to complete the notification of your claim and book an appointment at one of the private hospitals listed on the screen. If the available times do not suit you and you do not book an appointment yourself, the private hospital will contact you within two weekdays.

If you have requested other types of treatment/examination than those mentioned above, you will receive the reply by letter in your e-Boks within one to three business days or by mail.

If you have chosen to use a therapist outside our network, you will have to lay out the expense yourself. Your out-of-pocket expenses for treatment by a physiotherapist, a chiropractor, a reflexologist, an acupuncturist or a psychologist will be settled via Sygeforsikringen “danmark” – also if you are not a member.

Alternatively, you can send the bills by letter to Sygeforsikringen “danmark”, Palægade 5, DK-1261 Copenhagen K. When “danmark” has received your bills, they will normally deposit the total amount in your NemKonto account or your designated account within 8 days.

If you have paid for examination or treatment by a specialist or at a private hospital approved by us, you must send the bill and your medical records to us.

If you have chosen to receive treatment by a physiotherapist or a chiropractor within our network of therapists, we cover your expenses for treatment, provided we deem the consultations reasonable and necessary.

If you have chosen to use a therapist outside our network, we cover expenses for up to 12 treatments in total by a physiotherapist, an osteopath or a chiropractor within a period of 12 months. This means that you do not have to report the claim again just because the calendar year changes from 2023 to 2024.

No, you cannot report a claim on behalf of a child who is of legal age (18 years or over). Your child must log on herself/himself and use the children’s health insurance.

If you child of legal age has not used the children’s health insurance before, you must notify us first to register your child on your children’s health insurance.
