A large number of CPR numbers along with names and addresses have been exposed in a data breach of the Danish Civil Register, and we fully understand if this gives rise to concern.
It is important to note that your CPR number, name or address are not, in themselves, sufficient for anyone to access or make changes to your pension scheme or to start payout of your pension benefits. This requires your digital signature via MitID.
However, the breach may increase the risk of fraud attempts over the coming period. We have therefore stepped up our vigilance to signs of misuse of information. When you contact us, you may therefore find that we start by asking you a few questions to make sure it is you we are communicating with.
We have also compiled five tips to help you protect yourself as effectively as possible against misuse of your personal data.
Five tips to protect yourself
1. Be particularly alert to unsolicited contact via text message, phone call or email in which the sender uses information about you.
2. We will never contact you and ask you to disclose MitID information, passwords or details about the account into which we are to pay your insurance or pension benefits by telephone, text message or email. Never click on links or open attachments if you receive unsolicited text messages or emails.
3. Instead, go to our website, danica.dk, and log on to Netpension, or contact us directly on +45 70 11 25 25 or at danica.dk/write-to-us.
4. Never share information about MitID, passwords, accounts, pension schemes and insurance covers or any other confidential information.
5. If you suspect that you may have been the victim of fraud, please contact us as soon as possible via the Mobilpension app, on +45 70 11 25 25 or at danica.dk/write-to-us. We also recommend that you contact your bank straight away so that they can assist you with regard to your bank accounts.
Keep your data safe – and contact us in case of doubt
If you receive a message or a call that seems suspicious, stop or hang up. If the message or call is from Danica, please contact us directly on +45 70 11 25 25 or at danica.dk/write-to-us.
Never follow a link or call a phone number provided in an unsolicited message or by the person you are speaking to.
You can set up a credit warning
If you have specific reasons to suspect that your personal data are being misused, you can set up a credit warning at borger.dk.
A credit warning is a flag attached to your CPR
number, which makes it more difficult for others to take out loans or credit in
your name.
You can read more at borger.dk.
